About Scarvagh House Stud
Scarvagh House was built in 1527 with further improvements added over a 200 year period. Bill Buller purchased the The Scarvagh House estate in 1942 and began a very successful Dairy Farm. During this period Bill also represented Ireland in 3 Day Eventing at the Munich Olympics, a feat that his son and current owner Alfred replicated when he represented Ireland in the same sport at the Atlanta Olympics.
Scarvagh House stud was established in 1993 when the first stallion was purchased by Alfred Buller - the horse in question was called Zaffaran and it was his successful sire record that has seen the stud grow from 4-6 staff and 80 mares to its current position where there are now 80-90 people employed and over 1200 mares covered in 2006 by the 16 stallions now on the roster.
Scarvagh House is now one of Europe's leading dual-purpose studs. The stud is situated in the beautiful County Down countryside and set in approximately 1250 acres of rich pasture grazing, combined with modern day facilities. There has been significant investment into the facilities in and around the home base. This expansion was necessary to maintain the Quality, Value, Service and Choice that we offer.
We at Scarvagh would like to welcome you to utilise our open house policy. To understand what Scarvagh represents in modern thoroughbred breeding we believe a visit is necessary.
