Pedigree

A Group winner in Ireland and a Group 1 winner in Australia under their tough conditions, Runyon has already shown himself capable of siring Group 1 performers and thus his return to Europe is a great advantage for jumps breeders.
This son of Sadler’s Wells is another of the Scarvagh House stallions that looks ideally suited to mares carrying Nureyev, Perugino, Tate Gallery or Fairy King in their pedigrees.
Runyon is a very well bred horse. Out of the Galtres Stakes (L) winner Deadly Serious, who is herself out of stakes winner, Joking Apart traces to the Nell Gwyn third Strip The Willow, who has had so much influence at the Royal Studs as a foundation mare.
Runyon won the Leopardstown Derby Trail Stakes (Gr 3) in his classic year before relocating in Australia where he won the prestigious Underwood Stakes (Gr 1) as a five year old.
His stats as a sire are impressive despite only having 222 foals of racing age from 8 crops of racing age. Runyon has a lifetime statistic of 94 winners from a 149 starters (63%). With this he has had 9 stakes horses in Australia including the ultra tough Chairman’s Choice.
Runyton carries duplications of Native Dancer, Nearco, Djeddah and Fair Trial within five generations. Interestingly, his NativeDancer is not through Mr Prospector, so mares carrying that horse look well suited. These would include Gone West, the broodmare sire of Motivator, and Miswaki, dam-sire of Galileo.
Another Native Dancer line that should work to effect is that of Sharpen Up. Sharpen Up and his sons have enjoyed great success with Sadler’s Well. Doyen is a fine example of this.
The Ribot line has also produced a number of successful results as a broodmare sire line to Sadler’s Wells. Alleged is the broodmare sire of the 2003 St Leger (Gr 1) winner Brian Boru last this year’s Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Gr 1) winner Linda’s Lad.
