Pedigree

  • Pasternak showed his toughness and ability for Sir Mark Prescott and, although he is perhaps best known for landing some big gambles in ultra-competitive handicaps like the Cambridgeshire, he is a particularly sound horse whose qualities will be particularly attractive to jump breeders.
  • The Soviet Star line has proved to be a successful line in recent years: Starcraft proved himself to be the best older horse over a mile in Europe in 2005, and Democratic Deficit was a good winner of the Craven Stakes (Gr 3).
  • Pasternak is out of Princess Pati, winner of the Irish Oaks and is a half-sister to the Great Voltigeur Stakes Winner, Seymour Hicks. They are both out of Sarah Siddons, winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks, so Pasternak holds a pedigree that has both stamina as well as speed.
  • Pasternak’s dam, the Irish Oaks winner Princess Pati, is a daughter of the noted broodmare sireTop Ville, a son of High Top and a half-sister to Seymour Hicks.
  • Princess Pati is in bred to Tantieme through Top Ville and Relko, so any mares carrying these names, especially if they have Northern Dancer, look ideally suited to Pasternak. This Tantieme duplication can be seen in the dam of Winged Love.
  • Mares from the Never Bend line should have alikening for mares by Shirley Heights, Rivermanand Darshaan. Riverman crossed with Nureyevhas produced the Classic winner Spinning World. The Sharpen Up/Nureyev cross has produced at least 10 stakes winners. These stallions include Kris, Diesis, Trempolino and Selkirk.
  • Pasternak is a strong, athletic horse and his confirmation is being replicated in his stock therefore producing a classic National Huntstamp of horse.
